how weird. i was google searching for pictures of drew in spring and this came up. this was sophomore year, when my hair was two colors after i bleached the black out of it. next to me is ian, professor/poet suji kwock kim, and tanya. i don’t remember who the other dude is. man, professor kim was my hero. she is amazing.
I think you’ve posted this before….but YAY!
it’s too early in the morning to receive self-flagellating but self -congratulatory emails that rehash the past year, including things I didn’t know about and didn’t want to hear about. glad to hear you’ve woken up, but I fear you’re still sleep waking dude.
Drawing of the day: Edgar Allan Poe
Poe Quotes:
“I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.”
“The nose of a mob is its imagination. By this, at any time, it can be quietly led.”
“Convinced myself, I seek not to convince.”
De la de lay la
It’s up to you
For every passing day
To not let the past pass away
It’s up to you
Now that you understand
To take those who don’t by the hand
‘Cause you can see it coming
You can see it coming
You can see their light fade
Beneath the stars
It’s up to you
Not to sing along
When all of the feeling is gone
‘Cause we don’t sing the same song anymore
Now you’re offering this requiem
‘Cause we don’t sing the same song anymore
Now you’re offering this silent requiem
Why do people kill each other all the time
if it isn’t because of love gone wrong
or hurt feelings
feeling someone was disrespected
or despised
or deprived of what should have been his
treated fairly
as a good person, given in return what he himself gave
to the other person
then maybe it would be something bad would not have happened.
Or you could say in a more general way
if society itself had provided
which is to say, been more generous,
which is to say, loving
maybe you would not be seeing certain social behaviors.
You could say
economic exploitation itself is a lack of social love
where selfishness has made love difficult to give
or possessiveness or a fear of loss has overpowered love
and when you see a person dying of poverty
of the lack of medical care
this is a symptom of perversion
of the withholding of love
or the positive imposition of sadistic impulses
and thus, as you can see,
it is not just the whips and chains of sadists and masochists in nightclubs
that you might call perverse
but the practice of politics altogether
when it deprives people of the life-giving sustenance they need.
